Moving Words

Before we were asked to complete this assignment, I was already aware of how to maneuver and manipulate text in editing software programs such as Adobe After Effects, which is what I used to complete this clip.

I first chose a song that a few moments of an instrumental at the beginning so the text would be an exciting surprise to the viewer. The song was Trainwreck by Banks, a song that I have loved for over a year now. I love that I get to incorporate my favorite things into my creative endeavors and show my skills to the world.

I imported the MP3 of the song into After Effects and trimmed it accordingly because, for practice, it was not necessary to add source text for the entire three-minute song. I trimmed it to a point in the song where it made sense with the moving text and didn’t feel too forced.

Once I successfully picked part of the song to use, I placed a keyframe on the timeline at the first word that was sung to start off the source text and I kept adding one for every time the words changed, and added no transitions, such as a fade in or out, so it would feel seamless to the eye.

I had to replace the text, change the color and add keyframes in different places throughout the design process to help the text match the song, which was incredibly difficult since the song is a fast one, in my opinion. But, nevertheless, I was up to the challenge and proud of the final product that came out of my process.
